Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 14-day elimination phase work?

You pick the food groups you want to test during onboarding (dairy, gluten, garlic/onion, eggs, soy, nuts, caffeine by default). For 14 days you eat everything except those groups, and log your meals and symptoms so we can build a baseline. On Day 14 we compute your averages and you move to reintroduction.

How does reintroduction work?

One food group at a time, with a 72-hour washout between tests. During a test you eat a normal portion of the group and log any reactions over 48 hours. The app won't let you start the next test until the washout clears — that separation is how the pattern analysis stays meaningful.

Is the pattern report a medical diagnosis?

No. The report summarizes how often each food appeared before a rise in symptoms in your own logs, using qualitative labels only ("Frequently observed", "Sometimes observed", "Worth watching"). It is not a diagnosis of food allergy, intolerance, or any medical condition.

Why is the 1st-ranked food unlocked but the rest blurred?

Free users get the first pattern for free. Culprit Pro unlocks every ranked food plus the full plain-language explanation for each.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the Settings app on your device → tap your name → Subscriptions → Culprit → Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open Culprit → Settings → Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the Apple ID used for the original purchase.

How do I delete my account?

Open Culprit → Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, food logs, symptom check-ins, reintroduction results, and pattern reports from our servers. Subscription records retained for legal reasons are anonymized.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Is my data shared?

No. We do not sell or share your data with advertisers. See our Privacy Policy for details on processors used for hosting and AI features, and on the anonymization applied before any data reaches Anthropic.

Is Culprit a medical device?

No. Culprit is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Consult a qualified clinician before starting any elimination diet or making health decisions based on the patterns shown in the app.

I'm pregnant / breastfeeding / have an eating disorder — should I use Culprit?

Please talk to a qualified healthcare provider before starting any elimination program. Culprit is not designed for those situations and may not be appropriate.
