Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Account info: your email address (if you sign up with email or Google), or an opaque Apple/Google user identifier. Stored in Supabase Auth and used only to identify your account. A display name (editable by you) is shown next to lands you claim and to your friends and teammates.
• Walking routes (precise location): while a walking session is active, Plotta records your GPS coordinates so we can draw your path and detect when you've closed a loop. The raw point-by-point path is stored privately under your account and is never shown to other players.
• Land polygons: when you close a loop, the resulting polygon (the outline of the area) is stored and shown on the map together with your display name and chosen color so other players can see who owns each plot.
• Friends & social connections: if you use the Friends feature, we store a randomly generated friend code for your account, the friend relationships you create (who you have added or accepted), and the "kudos" reactions you send to or receive from friends. Friends are added only via a shared friend code or QR code — we never read your phone contacts or address book. Your display name and total area are visible to your accepted friends on the friends leaderboard.
• Teams: if you create or join a team, we store your team membership, the team name and color (chosen by a team member), and a team join code. Team names and aggregate team area are shown publicly on the team leaderboard.
• Daily streak: to show your walking streak we store the dates on which you claimed land (as your device's local date) and your current/longest streak counts.
• Safety reports: if you report a user or a team, we store who reported, what was reported, and the time, so we can review and act on objectionable content and abusive behavior. If you block a user, we store that block so we can hide that person from you.
• Usage data: aggregate stats such as total area, number of lands, and event timestamps. Used for the leaderboards and for in-app history.

User-generated content & safety

Plotta includes social features (friends, teams, leaderboards) where content you choose — your display name and your team's name — is visible to other players. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. Within the app you can:

• Block a user — blocked users are removed as friends and can no longer connect with or send kudos to you.
• Report a user, or report a team's name, so we can review it.

We review reports and may remove offensive content or restrict abusive accounts.

What we don't collect

• We do not track your location when no walking session is active.
• We do not access your contacts or address book. Friends are added by code/QR only.
• We do not access your camera, photos, microphone, or health data. (Your friend code is shown as a QR image generated on-device; scanning someone else's code is done with your phone's own camera/QR reader outside the app.)
• We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA/IDFV for ads).
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not embed third-party analytics SDKs or ad networks.
• We never share your raw walking path. Only the closed polygon outlines are public on the map.

Third-party services we use

• Apple MapKit (iOS) / Google Maps (Android) — renders the map. No personal data is sent beyond what is needed to display map tiles.
• Supabase — database and authentication host. Stores your account, your raw walking paths (private), your land polygons (public-on-map), friends/teams/kudos, streak, reports, and event history.
• Apple Sign in with Apple & Google OAuth — sign-in only. We receive an opaque user identifier and your email (only if you choose to share it).

Data retention & deletion

You can delete your account from Settings → Sign out → Delete account. Deletion removes your user record, your walking paths, your land polygons, your friend connections and kudos, your team membership, your streak, your reports, and your event history within 30 days. If you are the owner of a team, ownership transfers to another member, or the team is removed if you are its last member. Other players' lands are unaffected.

Background location

Plotta requests "Always" location permission so we can keep recording your route when the screen is off during a walking session. The blue location indicator at the top of your screen will appear while a session is active. We do not record your location at any other time — there are no geofences and no Significant Location Change subscriptions outside of an active session.

Children

Plotta is intended for users 12 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 12.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy we'll update the Effective date above and notify you in-app.
