Somnul listens while you sleep and shows you what the night sounded like. Because that means running a microphone in your bedroom, this policy is specific about where the audio goes: nowhere.

Short version

• There is no account, no sign-up, and no email address.
• Microphone audio is analysed on your phone. It is never uploaded.
• Everything Somnul keeps lives in the app's own storage on your device.
• We operate no server that holds your recordings or your measurements.

No account, no identity

Somnul has nothing to sign in to. We do not ask for a name, an email address, a phone number, or a social login, and we do not create an identifier that follows you across apps or devices. We have no means of knowing who you are, which also means we cannot look up "your data" on request — there is no record of you on our side to look up.

The microphone, and what happens to the sound

While a night session is running, Somnul reads the microphone to measure how loud the room is, moment to moment. That measurement happens entirely on your device. The audio is not streamed anywhere, not sent to any service for processing, and not used to train anything.

Somnul asks for microphone access for this one purpose. You can decline it, or revoke it later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and the rest of the app keeps working — it simply cannot measure a night.

The app declares the audio background mode so the measurement survives your screen locking. It is active only while you have a session running, and it stops when you end the night.

What is stored, and where

Somnul stores its data in the app's own container on your device. Nothing below is copied to a server.

• Night records: when the session started and ended, how long the microphone was actually running, the score, and the list of moments it detected with their times, lengths, and relative loudness.
• Capture gaps: the stretches where recording stopped, and why — an interruption, the app being stopped, or running out of storage.
• Any audio Somnul keeps: kept in the app's own storage, never outside it, and deleted automatically once the retention period you chose has passed.
• Your settings: sensitivity, retention period, and whether the purchase has been unlocked.

You can delete every stored night from Settings → Delete all recordings inside the app. Deleting the app removes its container, and everything in it, from your device.

How long audio is kept

You choose the retention period in Settings: 3, 14, or 30 days, with 14 as the default. Audio older than that is deleted automatically. The night's measurements — the score and the timeline — are much smaller and are kept until you delete them yourself.

The purchase

Somnul is unlocked by a single purchase made through the App Store. We never see or handle your payment details; Apple processes the payment.

To know whether this device has the purchase, we use RevenueCat, a purchase-management service, as our processor. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated identifier for the install and the App Store purchase record for this app — which product was bought, when, and whether it is a sandbox or production purchase. It receives none of your recordings, none of your measurements, and nothing from your microphone. We use it only to unlock what you paid for.

This is the only reason Somnul makes a network request at all. If the device is offline, the app still measures nights as normal.

No advertising, no analytics, no tracking

Somnul contains no advertising, no analytics SDK, no attribution SDK, and no crash-reporting service. It does not use the Advertising Identifier and does not ask for tracking permission, because it has nothing to track you with. We do not build profiles from your usage, and we do not sell or share personal data — we do not hold any to sell.

Other people in the room

A microphone in a bedroom may pick up someone else. Please tell anyone who shares the room that you are recording, and get their agreement first. Local law may require it. Somnul gives you no way to identify or separate voices, and no audio leaves the device, but the responsibility for recording in a shared space is yours.

Children

Somnul is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and since there is no account and no server, we hold no personal data from any user.

Not a medical device

Somnul records and measures sound. It does not diagnose, treat, or screen for any condition, including sleep disorders. Nothing it shows you is a medical finding. See our Terms of Use for the limits of what it measures.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Somnul handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Because the app holds no contact details for you, this page is where changes are published.
