These terms cover the Ranklet app on iPhone and Android. Using the app means accepting them.

Short version

• The daily puzzle is free, always, with no account.
• Ranklet Plus is an auto-renewing subscription that adds unlimited practice and difficulty selection.
• The facts come from Wikidata and can be wrong or out of date.
• There is no account, so there is nothing for us to suspend and nothing for you to lose but the app itself.

What the app is

Ranklet gives you one deduction puzzle a day: five real cities, a handful of true comparisons, and three tries to put them in order. The clues are generated so that exactly one ordering satisfies all of them — there is nothing to guess at.

Free and paid

The daily puzzle is free for everyone, every day. So is the whole archive of past puzzles. Free play also includes three practice puzzles a day.

Ranklet Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription offering unlimited practice puzzles and the ability to choose their difficulty. The price and billing period are shown in the app before you buy, in your own currency. Payment is charged to your Apple Account, or to your Google Play account on Android, at confirmation of purchase.

The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of that period. You can manage or cancel it at any time in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions on iPhone, or in Google Play → Subscriptions on Android; cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves the current period running to its end.

Any unused portion of a free trial, where one is offered, is forfeited when a subscription is purchased.

Refunds

Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play, so refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their terms, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com for an App Store purchase, or through your Google Play order history for a Google Play purchase. We cannot issue refunds for store purchases ourselves, though we are happy to help you work out what went wrong.

About the facts

The cities, the attributes and the values behind each puzzle come from Wikidata, used under CC0. Wikidata is community-maintained and can contain errors, gaps, and definitions that differ from the one you have in mind — a city's "area" may be its municipal boundary in one entry and its metropolitan region in another.

Puzzles are generated and checked automatically, including a consistency check that rejects implausible values, but that check proves internal consistency and not truth. Do not rely on anything in Ranklet as a source. It is a game built on open data, not a reference work.

Fair use

Ranklet is for personal enjoyment. Do not attempt to extract answers from the app's files, republish the puzzle set as your own, or interfere with the service that publishes them. The puzzles, the app, its name and its design are ours; the underlying facts are in the public domain and always will be.

Availability

A new puzzle is published every day at midnight UTC by an automated process. We make no promise that it will never miss a day, and the app keeps several days of puzzles on your device so that a missed publication does not stop you playing. We may change or discontinue the app; if the subscription is discontinued you will not be charged again.

No warranty, and the limit of our liability

Ranklet is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded, in which case those exclusions do not apply to you.

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for anything arising from the app is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes and the new version is published here. Continuing to use the app after that means accepting the change.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict of law rules. This does not remove any protection you have under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
